Now, in our 11th issue, the Student Spotlight is upscaling in full force. We have made it clear to the public that we are more than a high school; we are more than a high school newspaper – but an outlet that can hold power to account and inform young people about the decisions being made.
While we face challenges in staffing and budget, we were able to use our age to our own advantage. Through the connections of our journalists, we were able to put our finger on the pulse of the youth community and address the concerns of young people by keeping them informed.
Leading with the fun stories we collected during Darwin Fringe, and ending with the impactful story about truancy officers, our Youth Community segment for this issue is more robust than ever. Having the pleasure of working closely with every reporter and editing their work, I was truly impressed by the growth many of them have experienced and the unique encounters that shaped their perspectives.
By introducing our young reporters to unfamiliar topics and providing them with the necessary resources to develop their skills, the Student Spotlight is nurturing the next generation of critical thinkers.
