Issue 9

FOREWORD

It has been a while since I’ve written a foreword for an edition of the Student Spotlight Magazine and much has changed since I last signed off on the second page. The Magazine has gone from just a high school pamphlet to a standard publication distributed in libraries and schools – all with the combined effort of our amazing team that has just been working relentlessly on improving our work issue by issue. I would also like to thank our community partners who have been assisting us in our endeavours to inform and connect more young people.

Other than shedding light on the amazing young people in the Territory, our mission is to also inform young people about the things happening that will affect them. This is why we have decided to cover the election more extensively than ever. Here at the NTSS – we believe in good-quality journalism and honest reporting. It is not about encouraging young people to vote in a particular direction but simply raising questions to political candidates and the changemakers about the things young people care about.

Our journalists have also been covering various events across Youth Week and reporting on the things that are happening in the community, as well as the youth leaders who are behind the making of these events. In the future, the NTSS is dedicated to discovering more community stories and providing our readers with top-quality independent journalism. Our message is clear – the NT doesn’t lack good stories, but we lack the people who are actively looking for them.
